Chitwan Jungle Safari
Anyone who has visited in the past would not be unaware of the majestic land of Chitwan jungle safari. Literally meaning “The heart of the jungle”, Chitwan is best known for the vast flora and fauna it flaunts. It is located in the central south region of Nepal, about 150 kms. from the capital Kathmandu. With more than 400 species of rare birds and animals living in a deep rich ecosystem, Chitwan offers a great visit for those who wish to witness wilderness more closely, and within affordable budget and time constraints.
The highlights of this park are the rare 500 Asian one-horned rhinoceros (One-Horned Rhino) and some hundred nocturnal Royal Bengal Tigers that live in the dense forests of the park. Here, we take you to a chitwan jungle safari where you are in for a treat to discover a lost world of wildlife, both botanic and zoologic, of crocodiles, pythons and deer; beautiful birds and if you are fortunate – the superb Royal Bengal Tiger. Other amazing experiences you simply should’t miss include swimming and bathing with elephants, jungle ride, canoe ride, jeep drive and much more. What adds to this experience is
that we also escort you to the nearby tribal village and museum where you will get up close and personal with the colorful culture of the indigenous Tharu people.
Elephant Safari is one of the primary things to do, while you’re travelling at the Chitwan National Park. It is one of the best ways to spot wildlife from a closer periphery at upto a meter’s distance, sitting on the top of the largest land animal. With the mahout sitting on the front and next to your friends or professional guides/naturalists/visitors, you are in for a journey to the wild, where you will encounter numerous wild species including the rare one-horned rhinocerous , forest deer, peasant, indian cookoo, wild boar, sambar deer, red muntjac, Indian porcupines and rhesus monkeys. You will also get to roam around the ‘Bizhazaari’ lake which is home to several hundred species of birds and plants.
For those who do not want to ride the mighty tuskers, there is an alternative way for roaming around the jungle, the Jeep Safari. Through the open jeeps, this swift ride allows visitors to explore rare wild flora and fauna in natural state. Jeep drive will also escort you to ‘Gharial Crocodile Breeding Centre’ at Kasara of CNP’s headquarters, where you can observe breeding activities of Gharial, Marsh Magar and tortoises. As per guest request, both Full day Jeep Safari and Half day Jeep Safari are available . Jeep Safari is also taken to be one of the famous safari programs in the National Park area.
Elephant breeding centre
One of the other attractions of Chitwan National Park is the elephant breeding center, located at about an-hour walk from Sauraha, considering the heat and road conditions. Established in 1985 with an intention of increasing the elephants’ population in the area, it is one of the only 2 elephant breeding centers around the world. The center Is open all day but morning is a better time to visit as you get to watch the mahouts prepare food for the elephants.
Be prepared to witness the intimacy between mother and baby elephants, and watch them having fun, as they cover themselves in dust to ward off mosquitoes or scratch their backside with a bamboo stick.
Canoe ride is another exciting adventure for the tourists as they get to ride along the Rapti river and have a closer view of crocodiles and other wild animals. With a naturalist guide constantly beside you to help you with information, you will see the Marsha Mugger and Ghariyal Crocodiles, snouts wide basking under the sun, in their natural habitat. Other animals you will encounter during your trip are the rare species of birds, reptiles, fishes and other wetland species.
One of the things not to miss during your stay at Chitwan National Park is to witness the majestic Tharu culture.
The native indigenous people of Chitwan have a culture impressively rich and spectacular. We bring to you, a showcase of amazingly beautiful Tharu songs and dances, including the famous stick dance, where a group of Tharu men run around forming a great circle around a fire and dancing around whacking sticks simultaneously. There are regular nightly performances at the Sauraha Tharu Culture House and the Tharu Culture Program, which will leave you in awe at the visually stunning performances from one of the amazing cultural tribe of Nepal.
