One of the other attractions of Chitwan National Park is the elephant breeding center. The center is located at about an-hour alk from Sauraha. It is established in 1985 with an intention of increasing the elephants’ population in the area. It is one of the only 2 elephant breeding centers around the world. The center is open all day but morning is a better time to visit. You get to watch the mahouts prepare food for the elephants.

Be prepared to witness the intimacy between mother and baby elephants, and watch them having fun, as they cover themselves in dust to ward off mosquitoes or scratch their backside with a bamboo stick.
