Anyone who has visited in the past would not be unaware of the majestic land of Chitwan jungle safari. Literally, it is “The heart of the jungle”. Chitwan is best known for the vast flora and fauna it flaunts. It is located in the central-south region of Nepal, about 150 km. from the capital Kathmandu. More than 400 species of rare birds and animals live in a deep rich ecosystem. Moreover, the Chitwan Jungle safari offers a great tour for closer wild encounters. It is within an affordable budget and time constraints.
The highlights of this park are the rare 500 Asian one-horned rhinoceros (One-Horned Rhino) and some hundred nocturnal Royal Bengal Tigers. Here, we take you to a Chitwan jungle safari where you are in for a treat to discover a lost world of wildlife, both botanic and zoologic, of crocodiles, pythons and deer; beautiful birds and if you are fortunate the superb Royal Bengal Tiger. Other amazing experiences you simply shouldn’t miss include swimming and bathing with elephants. Jungle rides, canoe rides and jeep drives are famous too. What adds to this experience is that we also escort you to the nearby tribal village. Museum and cultural program give you an idea of the colorful culture of the indigenous Tharu people.
Elephant Safari is one of the primary things to do, while you’re traveling at the Chitwan National Park. It is one of the best ways to spot wildlife from a closer periphery. One can view wildlife up to a meter distance. A Safari in the jungle sitting on top of an elephant is really remarkable. Relish encounters with animals and birds. Rhino, deer, pheasant, cuckoo, boar, porcupines and monkeys are regular sights. You will also get to roam around the ‘Bizhazaari’ lake which is home to several hundred species of birds and plants.
For those who do not want to ride the mighty tuskers, there is an alternative way for roaming around the jungle, the Jeep Safari. Through the open jeeps, this swift ride allows visitors to explore rare wild flora and fauna in a natural state. Jeep drive will also escort you to the ‘Gharial Crocodile Breeding Centre’ at Kasara of CNP’s headquarters. You can observe the breeding activities of Gharial, Marsh Magar and tortoises too. As per guest request, both Full day Jeep Safari and half-day Jeep Safari are available. Jeep Safari is one of the famous safari programs in the National Park area.
One of the other attractions of Chitwan National Park is the elephant breeding center. The center is located about an hour’s walk from Sauraha. It is established in 1985 with an intention of increasing the elephant population in the area. It is one of the only 2 elephant breeding centers around the world. The center is open all day but the morning is a better time to visit. You get to watch the mahouts prepare food for the elephants. Be prepared to witness the intimacy between mother and baby elephants, and watch them having fun, as they cover themselves in the dust to ward off mosquitoes or scratch their backside with a bamboo stick.
The canoe ride is another exciting adventure for the tourists as they get to ride along the Rapti river and have a closer view of crocodiles and other wild animals. With a naturalist guide constantly beside you to help you with information, you will see the Marsha Mugger and Gharial Crocodiles, snouts wide basking under the sun, in their natural habitat. Other animals you will encounter during your trip are the rare species of birds, reptiles, fishes and other wetland species.
One of the things not to miss during your stay at Chitwan National Park is to witness the majestic Tharu culture. The native indigenous people of Chitwan have a culture impressively rich and spectacular. Moreover, a showcase of amazingly beautiful Tharu songs and dances is a joy to behold. It includes the famous stick dance, where a group of Tharu men runs around forming a great circle around a fire and dancing around whacking sticks simultaneously. Furthermore, there are regular nightly performances at the Sauraha Tharu Culture House and the Tharu Culture Program, which will leave you in awe at the visually stunning performances from one of the amazing cultural tribes of Nepal.
