The Everest region comprises two different districts namely Solu and Khumbu (3, 300 m). Its other name is Khumbu. The locale is famous for trekkers wishing to go to the abode of Mt. Everest.
The Jiri or Shivalaya route provides an outlook of the entire Khumbu region. However, most of the trekkers start their journey nowadays from Lukla.
The Khumbu starts from 3, 300 meters and up to 8, 848 meters from Everest itself. Most of the Khumbu is within the Sagarmatha national park (1, 148 square kilometers).
This national park is the home of several species of plants and specifically, many species of Rhododendron and Pine. It is also home to some rare species of animals including the rare snow leopard, Himalayan Thar, black bear and musk deer.
The Everest region is the home to the Sherpa people. They have been in the place since ancient times. These superhuman beings who have an amazing capacity to climb mountains and hills are kindhearted and friendly people.
There are several villages namely Namche (3,440 m), Khumjung and Thame (3,950 m). These are purely the Sherpa Village. They exude beautiful culture and way of life from their homes, attire and festivals.
These villages as well are also home to some famous, record-holding climbers like Appa Sherpa, Babu Chiri Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.
Furthermore, you will see one of the largest and the biggest monasteries in the region. Some claim that these monasteries have mystical power and some have yeti scalps too.
Other than the terrain and culture, the Everest region is also famed for several trekking trails. A few of the many trails in the region include the Everest base camp trek, Everest Gokyo Trek, Everest three pass trek, Everest panorama trek, Everest view trek and Pikey Peak Dudh Kunda Trek.
All the mentioned treks are significant and independent trekking trails in the region. These are in one way or another taking you to the vantage point to witness the world’s highest peak.
The contemporary gateway is Lukla Airport. However, one can take the route of Jiri & Salleri too. Lukla Airport or Tenzing Hillary Airport is the only commercial airport that serves trekkers and locals in the region year around.
