Langtang region is the early trekking destination of Nepal. It is near by Kathmandu. Therefore, the region was the host of the first trekking activities in Nepal. This is a very beautiful destination to venture to not only when you are in a time crunch but also when you have time in Abundance. Langtang region is the quickest gateway to the high Himalayas from the capital city of Nepal.
Like every other alpine region and trekking trail, the Langtang region as well is protected by the Langtang National Park. This national park was the 4th national park in the country and the first-ever Himalayan national park. Moreover, The national park comprises 3 districts namely Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Sindhupalchok and covers an area of 1,710 kilometers square.
As well as Langtang is home to only indigenous communities. They are the Tamangs and Lama. Tamang people are horsemen in the age-old days. They migrated from the autonomous region of Tibet.
In the modern day, these people are among the most hospitable and religious people in Nepal. Furthermore, they have exceptional architectural and weaving skills. Their houses, clothes, and decorations are a display of their skills in arts and crafts.
This handful of indigenous communities share the protected land with some rare species of plants and animals. The high and low land of the Langtang conservation area makes space for Rhododendrons of several hues, tall pine trees and strikingly green bamboo forests.
On top, this region is the destination for the best wildflower blossoms in the country. Langtang is primarily a beaten trail. It is a perfect home for red pandas, snow leopards, wild cats and many rare habitats.
In terms of trekking routes and mountains, the Langtang region does not fall back from any other trekking trails in Nepal. Tucked in between Everest (8,848m) and the Manaslu Regions, (8,156 m) Langtang as well as a few 7000-meter mountains set the center stage of the trek.
Some famous mountains include the Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m) range, Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Shisha Pangma (8,013 m) and Jugal Himal. These mountains are best seen from the vantage points of the treks Gosainkunda (4,610m), Langtang region (3,870 m), Ama Yangri (3,770 m), Tamang heritage and Ganja La (5,106 m).
Langtang region along with Manaslu (8,156 m) was one of the hardest-hit destinations by the 2015 earthquakes. Even though, The tremors destroyed every house. However, immediately after the quake and as soon as 3 months people started building back their homes.
Tourism is the only source of income after agriculture. People have almost built back the lodges and have started serving the trekkers in the region.
International Surveyors have called Langtang safe. There are research reports of Langtang being safe for trekking.
