Gosainkunda to Baruwa Trek

    Personal Information

Gosainkunda to Baruwa Trek is one of the loveliest, heartiest and most beautiful short treks located very close to the capital city. The word Gosain means lord of the senses and the zenith of this trek is one of the highest regarded Hindu pilgrimages. The trek is as short as a week. Gosainkunda to Baruwa trek is favorable and lovely for many reasons. It is because of the sparse population. However, it is a beautiful thing to observe harmony in the diversity of this very terrain.

The entire terrain is full of the descendants of Tibetans namely Tamangs who are followers of Buddhism. Whereas, the settlement is the highest religious Hindu Pilgrimage. On the other hand, the beauty of this trek comes from the Langtang national park which houses almost the entire trail of the Gosaikunda Trek. The national park is home to many endangered species like the red panda and snow leopards. Wildflower blossoms are the highlight of the region.

Gosainkunda Lake The Gateway To Langtang Valley Trek

It is believed that the lake of the Gosainkunda was created by the trident of a Hindu deity Lord Shiva. According to mythology, Lord Shiva drank the poison that originated from the tussle between gods and demons. Ultimately this caused a lot of pain to the almighty. After a lot of struggle and restlessness, he flew to the Himalayas. In an effort to drink cold water to soothe his burning throat he cracked open the mountain and from where came the water and created this lake. Primarily, before coming to the existence of Gosainkunda to Baruwa Trek, this destination was just a heartthrob of local pilgrims and national religious tourists. They visited this place is occasions like Janai Purnima.

Gosainkunda to Baruwa Trek is not just about the holy lake but also mountains and pristine natural presence around it. It is also a very good vantage point in the region and offers views of mountains in the Langtang range, Ganesh ( 7,422 m ), and even Manaslu (8,156 m). So all in all, in a week, Gosainkunda (4,380 m) trek is worth the investment.

A representative from Karma eco adventure will transfer you at your hotel. You can take your time to stroll around and see the surrounding of your accommodation.

Meanwhile, our backend staff will make ready all the permits to take along on the trail. Simultaneously, our guide will help you get acquainted with the country by taking you to different heritage sites. In the evening, you will be briefed about your trek either in your hotel or over the dinner.

Day 03: Drive to syabru besi

This is the first day on the road to get to our trek put in destination. The choice of vehicle can differ from the package you opt to choose, ranging from public vehicle to a private vehicle. There are two ways to reach Shyapru Besi and the best way is the national highway namely Prithvi highway. The trip on a coiled highway and along one of the biggest tributaries of Trishuli takes roughly around 7 hours. Once in Shyapru Besi you will unload your luggage and call it a night.

Day 04: Syabru to Thulo shyapru

Today is the warm up trek day for you and you will only walk around 4 hours to gain 750 meters in elevation. You will follow the only major trail out of Syabru besi and follow the Langtang Khola until you hit the fields of Thulo Syabru. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.

Day 05: Thulo Syabru to sin gompa (chandan bari)

We head out of Thulo Syabru all the way to the village of Dursagang. From here, the trail then climbs steeply through the forest of hemlock and rhododendron to the ridge namely Phoprang danda. There is another option as well available to Sing Gompa and depending upon the condition the route may differ. From here the trail continues in the forests and makes through hamlets and lodges all the way to Chandan bari. Chandan bari is famous as Sing Gompa. Overnight in Sing gompa.

Day 06: Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda Lake

The trail climbs through the same forest you left behind on the previous day and soon enough you will enter the protected area of Gosainkunda. With every spur towards your destination of the day, the mountain vista becomes bigger and awe inspiring. The trail climbs through Chalang Pati all the way to Lauribina Yak. The views of all Ganesh including the Paldor peak, Manaslu, Annapurnas and several unnamed peaks are captivating. From Laurebina you will enter tree less terrain. Soon enough, the lakes starts unfolding from the distance and the first ever lake that you will witness is Saraswati Kunda. It is believed that there are 108 lakes in the Gosainkunda periphery. Overnight in Gosainkunda.

    Day 07: Gosainkunda to phedi

It is a downhill from Gosainkunda to Phedi and your knees will be put into test. Out of Gosainkunda the trail traverses through the pass of Lauribina and then further drops steeply to the seasonal lodges of high camp. Further down the trail you will take the easier and less steep path to Phedi. Since the trek will last for around 3 hours you will get plenty of time to rejuvenate for the days to come. Overnight in Phedi.

    Day 08: Phedi to tharepati

Usually people walk all the way to Ghopte from Gosainkunda which is around 8 hours of downhill. However we break the day into 2 as it would be too much to ask within a day from your body, adventure apart rest and your fitness is a must. You would start downhill from Phedi until the final nerve wrecking uphill through the forest of Bamboo to ghopte. There are high chances of seeing a lot of wildlife in this section of the trek. From Ghopte the trail drops and climbs continues and makes its way through windy and exposed ridges. Overnight in Tharepati.

Day 09: Tharepati to melamchi gaun

Two trails branch from the village of Tharepati, one heads to Kathmandu valley and the second drops down towards Helambu. The walk from Tharepati to Melamchi Gaun is basically all forest and ruined temporary herders shelters and the grazing ground for local livestock. The views aren't as such but at times the landscape becomes beautiful. Towards the end of the trek the trail gets literally steep and very challenging. You will make your way through several chortens, prayer flags and mani wheels until you will see Melamchi Gaun in the distance. Melamchi gaun also known as Melamchi Ghyang is pretty big enough to be called a village. Overnight in Melamchi Gaun.

Day 10: Melamchi gaun to Tarke Gyang

You head out of the Gompa in the Melamchi Gaun and then drop down through dense forest. There are several chortens and prayer flags along the trail which is a reminder of the fact that the region has a very big Buddhist influence. Once in Tarke Ghyang you realize how beautiful this village is, made of mostly stones. Overnight in Tarke Ghyang.

    Day 11: Tarke to Sermathang

Sermathang is a very popular rest area that falls in the Helambu circuit. To make it to Sermathang, which takes around 4 - 5 hours, you head out of Tarke Ghyang hotel. You embark on the only trail that traverses through religiously and culturally rich Buddhist villages of Seti Ghyang and Gangyul. From the village of Gangyul you reach an unfinished road which leads in the beautiful village of Sermanthang. In Sermathang awaits beautiful views of mountains in the langtang range. Overnight in Sermathang.

Day 12: Sermathang to Baruwa (Camping overnight)

It is a very short walk to Baruwa village from Sermathang and this is the last village in the Helambu circuit. Despite very close to motorable road and having 700 household and being a large village, this is least developed village. In such a huge village exists no teahouses or very basic school and facilities. Overnigth in Baruwa village.

Day 13: Baruwa to melamchi bazaar (drive to Kathmandu)

The trail drops from Baruwa but more gently towards our final destination. As you leap forward towards Melamchi Bazaar, the settlements get more mixed and the villages turn into towns. Once in Melamchi Bazaar, which takes slightly above couple of hours in slow pace, you will board a vehicle to Kathmandu. When you reach Kathmandu our guide will transfer you to your hotel. Our Gosainkunda Ama Yangri trek officially comes to an end on this day. Thank you for choosing Karma eco adventure as your travel partner in Nepal!
