Tamang Heritage Trek
Tamang Heritage trek is an exemplary village to village and culturally rich trek. This trek is more of a religious and cultural exploration trek. Tamang people are known for being exuberant and culturally rich highland settlers of Nepal. Langtang national park is the home of people of this tribe. They are handful in number, only 4500 household in the entire region but the most primitive practices practicing Tamangs in the entire Nepal. Likewise, this trek as well is short but keeps the ability to be prolonged for above 2 weeks.
Tamang heritage trek houses this rare indigenous people and their communities who are the descendants of Tibetan horsemen. It is believed that they fled from their homes some thousand years ago. This trail was initially built with the idea of introducing tourism to the people in an effort to help them overcome poverty and joblessness. Moreover, it was a combined effort of the local inhabitants and Nepal tourism board to drive the crowd and introduce the concept of village tourism. Furthermore, the earning made from tourists by offering accommodation, food, cultural shows or selling handicraft is given to the individual and that individual contributes a part of it to the village. The village then disperses the funds to make schools, health posts or any sort of community projects.
The trek can either be started from Syabrubesi or from the comfort of Sundarijal. However, popular trek put in destination is Syabru. The loop of Tamang heritage trek can be completed in a week’s time but can be extended by mixing with other splendid treks in the region. The mountain ranges of Langtang, Ganesh and Manaslu serve at your homestay doorsteps. However, like mentioned before, this is more of living in a Tamangs house, walking from village after village of the Tamangs, sleeping in their homes, watching their rich wood carving skills, eating their dishes and drinking their home made liquor. There are many treks that take you to the heart of the mountains but Tamang heritage trek is that one trek that takes you to the heart of the communities of the people who inhabit in these mountains.
